About

Hi! Welcome to life on a branch, the part of your life when you’re officially out of the nest but unable to fly. This is a place where all of the college grads still working for minimum wage can come together for advice, a frustration vent or another online distraction.

Want to know a little about me? Read on.

I want to apologize for using a “look, I’m outdoorsy” photo, but I don’t have many photos of just myself. The other pictures I have are of me being pretty weird, and while that’s the norm for me, I don’t think our relationship is ready for that yet.

Anywho…

I grew up and went to college in Wisconsin, but right now I’m hanging out on a branch in Colorado. I moved to this lovely state with my boyfriend (yes, I have one of those) in August of 2011. Greatly underestimating the difficulty of finding a job in one of Colorado’s most beloved cities, I found myself unemployed for six months. Then I got three jobs all at once, two of which payed slightly over minimum wage.

My Colorado family consists of my boyfriend of four years and my cat of one and a half years. My boyfriend is going to graduate school to earn his PhD in Statistics. Don’t be intimidated, he’s just a friendly math nerd. I guess he’s on a branch right now, too, only he keeps jumping to higher branches and once he gets to the top he is going to fly fast and far. And my cat? You could say she was on a branch when we first met her. She was a kitten earning street cred at an animal shelter, but now she’s living the good life.

NEWSFLASH: As of September I got an actual job, but I’m still trying to navigate this whole young adult world. I was actually head-hunted for my position, which is pretty legit. Click here if you want to see how it all went down.

  1. Hi Lauren, congratulations on getting a job. I run a blog (twentiesblog.wordpress.com) where people in their twenties share stories about what they’ve been doing post-graduation, and I’d like to know if you could contribute by writing a profile of yourself and your career endeavors. Please reply to twentiesblogger@gmail.com if you’re interested.
